Molly

Molly is 17 years old and lives in La Mirada. Her mother is an 8-year ovarian cancer survivor who has been out on disability for the past 5 years due to her Bi-polar disorder. Her father is a ne’er-do-well who lives in San Diego. He has never paid child support and rarely sees any of the children. She lives in a small 2 bedroom apartment with 7 other people; to help make ends meet, her mother had to take in someone to rent the 2nd room. Molly is brilliant. She has a 4.7 GPA, plays soccer and volleyball, although had to give up volleyball as she couldn’t afford the cost. In her senior year she is taking 5 AP classes, however cannot afford the $50.00 fee to take the AP exams. She has an amazing attitude, always happy, positive and supportive of everyone around her. She has a boyfriend whose family she has adopted as her own. She tells me it is there that she sees what a “normal” family looks like. His mother became her second mother. Last month, her 2nd mom died from breast cancer. This has been a devastating blow to Molly who now suffers from the loss of her 2nd mother as well as the struggles with her biological mother. Her older sister has recently moved back from South Carolina as her husband was deployed to Iraq. She needs our help. Molly and her younger sister receive free hot lunches at school, but on the weekends often go hungry.

Annie

Annie is 11 years old and lives in Anaheim. Annie’s mother, who was the breadwinner in the family, died earlier this year from liver cancer. Annie currently lives with her father who is disabled. Annie is struggling with the loss of her mother and trying to adjust to live with her Dad. They live a very meager existence and could use any assistance available.

Jennifer

Jennifer is 10 years old and lives with her mother in San Clemente. Jennifer’s father died from lymphoma 3 years ago. Jennifer is a very sweet girl who is struggles with the sadness of the loss of her father. Jennifer’s mother currently is battling her own issues of depression and has been out of work for several months. To make matters worse, Jennifer’s older sister has been struggling with drug abuse too. They too live a very meager existence and often struggle to have healthy food on the table.

Megan, John, Courtney

These kids lost their father to melanoma nearly 6 years ago. After his death, a family friend made a death-bed promise to care for the children and their finances. Now 6 years later, he has lost/stole all of the family’s money and assets, including their Las Vegas home and the father’s life insurance monies. Although he is under criminal investigation, they family has no money. The mother is struggling now to re-enter the workplace after caring for her husband and her children for the past 20 years. They too often go without food!

Michelle

Michelle is a 17 year old who lost her father to a brain tumor 5 years ago. Her mother has struggled with depression and has been in and out of work for the past several years. They too have come close to losing their home in San Diego and have had to take on “renters”. Michelle is a brilliant girl trying to now apply for colleges and get some type of financial aid. She too is on the “lunch” program at school.

Amy

Amy is a 13 year old girl living in Bishop. Her mother has lymphoma and is currently in treatment. Amy’s mother is her sole provider and struggles making ends meet as she often is unable to work due to her illness. Living in Bishop she has to endure 4 hours of driving to get to her medical appointments and treatments. They could use help!
