“Helpful, Energetic, Reviving Optimists in Every Situation”
HEROES are teens, 16 years or older, who have a parent with cancer or have lost a parent to cancer and choose to give back to the cancer support community. This is a free, youth driven, leadership development program that operates annually from March – December.
HEROES are expected to commit to a 4-day training retreat May 26 – 29, a 4-day summer camp August 16-19 for which they serve as camp counselors, monthly meetings from March – December, and small group or independent work on youth selected community service. Meetings and retreats take place throughout Southern California.
Thanks to generous donors and grants this program is free to any teen 16 or older, affected by a parent’s cancer and committed to helping younger children going through the same thing.
Applications due to the Kids Konnected office by Friday, March 17. See full application for details.
We are working hard to grow our support groups and serve more communities but many kids still live too far away to attend an in-person meeting. If you are interested in connecting with one of our HEROES over email to hear from someone who understands what you’re going through, contact us here:

Special thanks to the Leo Buscaglia Foundation whose generous contribution helped make the HEROES Teen Leadership Program possible.
