Hope the Bear Care Package

Our Hope the Bear Care Packages are individually tailored to each family based on the information we receive. Every package includes a “Hope” teddy bear for each child in the family, books, workbooks, brochures, and additional information to help the family better cope with cancer.  Our volunteers make security blankets for those under 4, and special bereavement packages for children and teens that have a parent with cancer or who have lost a parent to cancer. Donate a package to a child of our choosing, or order a package for a child you know who is coping with cancer.

Send A Kid to Camp

Kids Konnected offers an annual Jr. Camp for youth 7-13 years old whose parent has been diagnosed with or lost to cancer. Every August, participants are bused to Camp Oakes in Big Bear, California. Kids participate in arts and crafts, drama, swimming, nature activities, sports, a ropes course, hiking, horseback riding, archery, rock climbing, and campfire stories. Camp also offers support group time where kids can connect with one another about the experience of having a parent with cancer and receive guidance from professional therapists. Children share and process their feelings within the group, while therapists educate them on healthy ways to cope with their feelings. The children are able to openly discuss issues that perhaps they don’t feel comfortable sharing with school friends or even their family at home. Friendships made at camp carry out into the year and encourage youth to attend support group once they get home. For $300 you can help a child find friendship and support this summer.

Support Groups

When a parent has cancer or passes away from cancer, it can have devastating emotional effects on the children. We offer monthly or bi-weekly group therapy sessions facilitated by a licensed therapist. These sessions allow kids to get the guidance they need and meet other kids going through the same experience so they know they are not alone. A donation of $50 can pay for these sessions for one child for one month, and a donation of $600 will cover an entire year. View Support Group Locations

Youth Leadership Training

Kids Konnected Youth Leaders have experienced the stress and trauma of having a parent with cancer and some have lost a parent to cancer. These Kids are an integral part of Kids Konnected, from monthly support groups, to support camps and even teddy bear outreach. Your donation will be used to send a teen to our yearly training retreat and give him/her a chance to be a role model to children in their community.

...how Kids Konnected helps:

At Kids Konnected, we know that cancer affects the entire family. Each of your children will experience your diagnosis in a different way and with different feelings. Cancer is not an easy subject to talk about and many parents try to avoid the topic in fear that they will scare their children. At Kids Konnected, our approach is to provide a supportive environment to the children so that they can share their feelings alongside other children going through the same thing. We provide free services such as support groups, summer camps, education, and fun events that allow the children to have a break from their parents cancer diagnosis. Learn More
